Hope everyone is having a nice weekend!
Grade 5:
We started as normal, spelling words etc but this week we turned our attention to making our ROMAN SHIELDS. This week we will be making our handles, starting to practice the formations and prepare for ROMAN DODGEBALL!
On Friday we completed a short visual quiz on FAIRYTALE ELEMENTS, linking this to CORALINE.
Grade 6:
During literacy this week we focused on combining objectives from our lessons so far, CHARACTERIZATION, DESCRIBING A SETTING and STORY STARTS. In a very fast paced lesson we moved from table to table using a series of visual prompts under timed conditions to write the 1st paragraph of a short story.
In our final lessons on SCIENCE FICTION before the Christmas break the grade 6 are having some fun designing and building their own robots inspired by our group reading.
In our final lesson we read further in MRS FRISBY AND THE RATS OF NIMH, we saw the rats escape and learnt more about the effects of DR SCHULTZ's experiments.
Grade 7:
I am very excited about the groups FABLES, after taking some time out from our usual schedule to explore the life and legacy of NELSON MANDELA we returned to typing up our short story books using publisher. In our final week our focus will be illustrations, scanning and inserting these in to our stories.
Grade 8:
We also spent two lessons looking in to the life of NELSON MANDELA, looking in particular at his essay during the time he was being sentenced to prison.
Later in the week the class undertook an audio quiz on figurative language, listening to a wide range of poems and attempted to identify the form of FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE used in each.
