Weekly Update:
Grade 5:
As we progressed with our Literacy lessons the class carried out a 'Student as the Teacher' activity in which each table became a separate classroom. One member of the group became a an expert on particular aspect of Roman life and had ten minutes to learn all the facts they could before 'teaching' a small class. This class in turn had to feedback the facts to the teacher from their group; collecting enough information to present a poster, due Tuesday.
On Thursday, we started looking at CAPITAL LETTERS, linking this to proper nouns, looking at the 10 rules.
We finished off the week reading CORALINE.
Grade 6:
Grade 6 continued to explore SCIENCE FICTION, we looked in greater depth at the sub-genres of style, exploring what areas individual students may find more appealing. Each student will present a poster next week.
Grade 7:
Everyone in the group now has two animals on which to base their FABLE. We have looked back at the figurative element of PERSONIFICATION. In order to develop deeper characters the class looked at the STEAL method; SPEECH, THOUGHTS, EFFECTS ON OTHER PEOPLE, ACTIONS and LOOKS.
Grade 8:
During literacy this week, we looked at MULTIPLE NARRATIVE and then combined this with BUILDING TENSION by focusing in on the work of Peter Benchley.
